Remember, for each activity posted in the library's Goggle class you complete, your name is entered into a drawing for prizes.  The more you do, the more chances you have to win! Prizes are given out at the end of the nine weeks.

Parent-Teacher Conference Night Library Door Prize Winners

Everyone who visited the library on the evening of Parent-Teacher conferences had the chance to enter a drawing for a free book.  Both students and parents were able to enter.  

The student winner of the book Diary of a Wimpy Kid: The Long Haul was sixth grade student Braelyn Webster and the parent winner of the book How to Raise a Reader was Ms. Martha Carter, grandmother of Brayden Chandler, also a sixth-grader.

Puzzle of the Month: The Polar Express

This month's puzzle has been one based on the beloved children's Christmas book The Polar Express by Chris Van Allsburg.  Students have enjoyed adding a few pieces here and there whenever their class has visited the library.

FUN FACT:

Did you know that author Chris Van Allsburg features the same dog in all of his books, including The Polar Express?  The fictional dog, Fritz, is based on the real-life pet of his brother-n-law, a bull terrier named Winston.  In The Polar Express the little dog is featured as a puppet displayed on the bedpost.  

Puzzle of the Month

The Puzzle of the Month for October was, fittingly, one featuring the works of Edgar Allan Poe.  Students are able to spend a few minutes working on a featured 1,000 piece puzzle during class visits to the library.  This is the third puzzle completed by students this year.

Library Google Class Winners

At the end of each nine weeks the library gives out prizes to a student in each grade for participating in library Google class activities.  For each activity a student completes, his or her name is entered into a drawing.  The more activities done, the more chances to win!

During the first nine weeks, Eighth-grade students read and studied Kwame Alexander's The Crossover in ELA.

Trevor won a new hardcover copy of Mike Lupica's Miracle on 49th Street, Kwame Alexander's Free Write Notebook, an all-access pass to WHS events (thanks for the donation, WHS!) and a coupon book to area restaurants.

7th Grade

Adrianna

Seventh-grade students read about the Middle Ages in ELA during the first nine weeks.

Adrianna won a new, hardcover Classic Starts edition of The Adventures of Robin Hood by Howard Pyle, The Thrifty Guide to Medieval Times: A Handbook for Time Travelers and a coupon book to area restaurants.

6th Grade

Alexa

Sixth-grade students read about the Great Depression in ELA during the first nine weeks.

 Alexa won a new, hardcover copy of Lauren Wolk's Echo Mountain, a coupon book to area restaurants and a bag of candy bars which were originally created during the years of the Great Depression.  

Students, keep checking in on the library's Google class page for activities you can do.  You'll learn lots of great stuff and possibly win lots of great stuff, too!

Halloween Book Characters

This past Friday, some book characters stopped by the library to help celebrate Halloween.  We had a few Harrys, a Hermoine and Dumbledore from Harry Potter, Thing 1 and 2 from Dr. Seuss' The Cat in the Hat, Jack Skellington, Williams Steig's Shrek, Charlotte the spider from E.B. White's Charlotte's Web, the Grim Reaper, characters from Castle Diaries and The Vampire Diaries and several characters from cartoons and animated films.  Do you recognize someone you know?

I hope you all had a wonderful Halloween and were able to read and hear lots of scary ghost stories! 

Registration Night Door Prize Winner

During our two registration nights, parents who visited the library were able to enter a drawing to win the book How to Raise a Reader.  Congratulations to our winner, Ms. Christina Moore! Pictured with the book is Ms. Moore's daughter Allison, an 8th grade student here at WMS.

WMS Teacher of the Year

We'd like to congratulate our guidance counselor, Mr. Chris Walker, upon being chosen as the W.M.S. Teacher of the Year.  Way to go, Mr. Walker!  

Winners Announced

Our school's celebration of Teen Read Week was a great success.

Everyone who participated in the scavenger hunt was able to choose a free gift from the library and three people went home with a little more change in their pockets. Congratulations to Haley Brazel, Jesse Hovater and John Allen Wright for being the winning entries in the hunt!

Students also had a chance to participate in an art contest, in which they would recreate the cover of a favorite book. Congratulations to Gordon, Abbey, Alyson and Bryan for their awesome artwork! Their entries were selected as the four winners. However, all creations entered were really, really good.

As you may know, the library stays open late each day Monday - Thursday and students are always welcome to stop by for help on homework, research, etc. During TRW, each student who came was entered into a drawing for prizes. Those winning something for this were Randy Barlow, Destynie Henry, Anna Cook, Katie Young, Emily Thomas, Peightyn Gross, Gracie Oliver and Morgan Hall.

The library would like to thank everyone who particpated. We're already getting excited about next year.
