ALA Book Awards Announced Today

The ALA, or American Library Association, has just today announced its 2022 award winners for excellence in children's and young adult literature.

The winner of the 2022 John Newbery Medal is The Last Cuentista by Donna Barba Higuera.

This year marks ONE HUNDRED YEARS in which the John Newbery Medal has been awarded for the best children's book.  The very first Newbery was awarded in 1922 to the book The Story of Mankind by Hendrick Willem van Loon.

Mrs. Creasy's favorite of all the Newbery winners is the 2004 selection The Tale of Despereaux by Kate DiCamillo.  To this day, it remains her favorite children's book.
