Summer Reading Bingo Winner

Congratulations to 7th grade student Hannah Goolsby, winner of our Reading Bingo drawing.   To encourage students to read throughout the summer, the library sponsored a summer reading challenge in which students had to read enough books to complete a reading bingo card.  Hannah won a $15 gift card to Barnes and Noble Booksellers.

Welcome Back!

Can you believe it's the start of another school year?  Well, it's here and it's going to be awesome! So, be sure to check back here on our library blog every now and then for updates regarding library sponsored events and news.

For today, here are some things you might need to know...

READING BINGO
The deadline to return the Reading Bingo cards is this Friday, August 12.  These were handed out to all 5th-7th graders at the end of the previous school year.  If you participated, be sure to get your paper back to me by Friday.  Prizes will be given out next week.

EXTRA SUPPLIES
The library is always in need of boxes of Kleenex and packages of pencils.  If you bought extras while doing your Back to School shopping and would like give some to the library we would be very appreciative. 

LIBRARY ORIENTATION
Within the next week or two all students will visit the library with their ELA class.  A brochure will be given to each student detailing information you will need to know, so be on the lookout for this to come home.

SUMMER READING

In an effort to foster the love of reading within our students and as a way to keep our reading skills sharp, WMS is sponsoring a reading challenge this summer.  We're calling it Reading Bingo, and we encourage all our students and staffulty to participate. 

Basically, the way it works, is that you choose a path on the Bingo card you want to follow - vertical, horizontal or diagonal - and read books that match the genres listed in those boxes.  To 'bingo" you must complete five in a row.  Write the title of the books in the boxes and return your bingo card to your ELA teacher by August 12.  Those who do will be rewarded!

Reading Bingo papers are being sent home with students in 6th and 7th grade today, and papers were also given to our feeder schools (WES, BES and NSES) yesterday.
 

Required Summer Reading for Our Current 8th Graders...

This is for all Rising WHS Freshmen HONORS English 9...

These books MUST be read DURING THE SUMMER before the beginning of school. A test (of major importance and grade impact) will be given during the first week of school.

ALL BOOKS ARE DUE SOON!!!

All library books are due on May 4.  This should give everyone to find theirs and pay for any late fees or fines, if applicable, prior to Field Day (Friday, May 20). 

Remember, at WMS, Field Day is a privilege and, as such, students must have certain responsibilities met before being allowed to attend.  One such responsibility is returning library books and/or paying for any fees/fines associated with said book(s).

2nd Nine Week Reading Winners Announced

At the end of each nine weeks WMS has a drawing for a $15 gift card to Barnes and Noble Booksellers.  For each non-required book students read independently their name is entered into the drawing.  A winner is chosen in each grade.  This time our winners included...
